Need A Job…and A Life?
Posted on February 7th, 2010 No commentsIt’s tough trying to make it these days with the economy but since you are reading this, that’s not really news to you. The real question is, what can you do about it?
Most people spend a lifetime doing what they don’t like to do. They find a niche or a job that satisfies their basic supply needs and they end up spending a lifetime there. The question is, are they really fulfilled in what they do? One of the best things that a person can do to find out what their designed for is to take a personality test that will determine what job category best suits them. These can be surprisingly accurate and can help greatly in guiding one to his or her most satisfying job.
The search for fulfillment can be a long and arduous one. Most people find a comfortable spot and stay there. With the new generation coming into their own, these things are changing. People are becoming more oriented to the idea of doing what they like to do. The older generation was more given to doing what was necessary and being satisfied in whatever that was it seems.
The journey to a new beginning can happen now. With the upsurge in people starting new businesses and most of them being on the internet, there must be something to it. Most people segue from a traditional job to an internet business slowly and safely. That is, they keep their day job while they build the new internet business. That’s smart really. New businesses can be treacherous to say the least. It’s always wise to move carefully into a new business and allow it to prove its validity.
Here’s some things to look for:
1. Look for a real business that doesn’t require an ongoing repetoire of endless “additional” add-ons. They can add up to a lot of money. Sometimes they get you for a small amount up front but then the marketing costs you out the wahzoo. Know the true costs before going in.
2. Be sure that the company you connect with has a real product. Most internet companies successes are based on getting new people signed up. Of course they offer the token product but their survival is based on signing up more and more people. The actual product is secondary to their existence. This is in my opinion nothing more than a pyramid scheme that uses a token product to skirt the law. A true product based company has sustainability and is not based on hyperboli. If there’s no real and valid product with viability, the company is just a puff of air and you will ultimately work yourself to death for nothing.
3. Keep in mind that whatever you decide to do needs to compliment your goals and dreams. Doing something you merely tolerate rarely if ever excites the genious within you. If you like to travel then find something that allows you to do that. If you like to do public speaking, then engage in a business that allows for that. Find what you like and JUST DO IT. If you like being quiet and you don’t like to talk to people, then find something that allows for that and offers a mechanism to operate successfully but quietly. You will always be good at doing what you like to do. Most people end up doing what they don’t like and never exceed mediocrity.
4. Connect with a company that offers stability, honesty and a great product for the customer. Integrity is sometimes hard to find. You can’t always go by the reviews you may find on the internet. Sometimes these are planted by competition as well as the few that lack the fortitude to move forward. Nothing works if you don’t work it. Most of the time, you can check the company via the Better Business Bureau. If it’s too new for that, then find out if the company has had real legal over site. Without that, it could be a disaster. Unfortunately, every internet business is not always legal. I can’t stress this enough. Check to be sure. There are gray areas in the law that are often left up solely to the SEC to make the determination between right or wrong. Which of the two do you think they usually choose?
5. Once you make the decision of which company to go with, buckle down and get to work. Don’t back off. Most quit because they don’t want to succeed badly enough. The first obstacle that arises makes them want to quit. No real business is easy and without its challenges. Face them all with a bold attitude and an armor plate of steel. Have a made up mind that this is the one. Once you choose, stop shopping for another opportunity and go for it. People weary with unstable business owners that can’t land on a specific and final business venture. In other words, find a good thing and run with it and never relent. Those who succeed know how to endure well, keeping their eye on the finish line.
6. Doubt and fear will not be your friends…EVER! they work vigerously to kill every hope of a dream. Without question winning in business is as much mental as it is physical. You’ve heard the old addage that “he is such a good salesman that he could sell ice to the Eskemos”. The truth is, most likely it has more to do with that person’s ability to endure than his ability to talk people into buying something they don’t really need. Just think of it, we now pay big bucks for water in plastic bottles…go figure. Most people’s failure first starts in their mind. They have not mastered the idea of success. They often believe that success is easy for others but it is only a dream for themselves.. Because they have had such a hard time in life, they don’t REALLY believe that success can be theirs. First, begin changing the way you think. Stop speaking words of failure and begin believing that you too can succeed. Words are what guide the ship. The words you use indicate the direction of your sail. You will follow them always.
Generally speaking, you cannot say one thing and experience another. If you are trying to operate a business but can’t get past the negative language of failure, you are already destined to fail. Change your words to lead your mind to believe it CAN be done. Your business will follow. Humans all have an inate ability to sniff out weakness and failure. They don’t want to attach themselves to a failure. Who would? People are much more apt to connect themselves to someone who is successful. They don’t want a real estate agent that has a failure attitude. They want an agent that can get it done…right? So the first challenge is to change the way you think. I can and I will succeed. If someone else can do it, so can I. I will lead my family to a better financial setting and I will bless them. I will not leave my destiny to someone else. I take full responsibility for my actions. Sowing seeds of success will reap a harvest of success. We must not poison the seed with doubt and disbelief. If we do, we will invariably wait for harvest but it will never come.
7. Don’t be driven by greed. That attitude is destructive and we have all seen it. Be driven by the desire to help others, including your immediate family. As you are able, give to the needy and the hurting. The laws of sowing and reaping apply. Live to bless others. This will keep your attitude in check and give you a sustainable reason to be. As you recieve good things for your efforts then give even more to others. This is capitalism at its best and this is how it’s supposed to work. Always remember that if there were no rich people, there would be no jobs. As your business grows, you help sustain jobs for others as you buy your cars, houses, clothes and even your food. Don’t forget to tip well at the restaurant. When you do, you are helping the economy and being kind all at the same time.
Final Thoughts
In the big scheme of things, the way to succeed is really first found in the mind. Then it moves to our actions and ultimately to the business. This converts to dollars. Greed is an ugly thing and is an act of hoarding. Life is way too short to spend it that way. After all, we can’t take it with us. Find what you like to do and activate that inner thrill again. Pursue that and be good to people along the way. It will add years of fulfillment to your life and your life will matter to all those who cross your path. Just do it and have a great life!
